The Background

The original hall was opened in 1974. The Centre was originally intended to include a second hall looking out on to the Meadow, but this was not built. The Centre was extended to accommodate the Parish Council offices and a separate library entrance added.

The Centre is self-financing supported entirely by income from hirings, fund-raising activities and events and donations. Regular hirers include various youth groups, sports groups, clubs and societies. The Centre is also a venue for weddings and parties.

The present accommodation is no longer fit for purpose in several ways:

The combination of men’s changing rooms and toilets and lack of female changing rooms limits the use of the Centre. There is insufficient space for regular users and limited opportunity to expand usage for these and new users. The Centre does not exploit its location in the Meadow; doing so would create more hiring income and underpin sustainability. The existing building is thermally inefficient and would benefit from upgrading.
